A look into the fisheries day

Friday 21st November, 2025.

Kafue Town Council joined the rest of the nation in commemorating World Fisheries Day at the Council’s Civic Center today in order to highlight the importance of water and the lives it sustains, both in and out of water.
Studies show that more than two-thirds of the world’s fisheries have been overfished or are fully harvested and more than one third are in a state of decline due to factors such as the loss of essential fish habitats, pollution, and global warming.
Today’s celebrations therefore sought to emphasize the importance of sustainable stocks of fisheries in the world, to strengthen human rights for the small scale fishing communities, to make a difference in the working conditions of fishing communities and to eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.
In commemoration of this year’s World Fisheries Day, the dedicated officers of Kafue’s District Health Depaetment took time to provide free medical screening services for various health conditions, including:
– Diabetes Mellitus
– Hypertension
– Prostate Cancer
– and other health checks
Below is the pictorial highlight of the event.
